  • U4GM GTA 5 Director Mode Guide

Los Santos feels different when you stop treating it like a mission map and start using it as a set. Director Mode lets you pick the cast, control the conditions, and try scenes that would be awkward in normal play. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S through Rockstar Editor tools. Players comparing GTA 5 Accounts may also enjoy how the mode gives familiar characters a fresh purpose, whether that means a quiet drive through Vinewood or a loud action shot near the desert.

    Getting Into the Mode

Start in Story Mode and give your character a moment to settle. You cannot open Director Mode while driving, swimming, taking part in a mission, or dealing with an active police pursuit. Once the area is calm, open the Interaction Menu. On PC, tap M. On PS5, hold the DualSense Touchpad. On Xbox Series X|S, hold the View button. Scroll to Director Mode, select it, then accept the prompt on screen. After a short load, you will arrive at the Casting Trailer.

    Quick Setup Checks

Leave your vehicle before opening the menu.
Finish or abandon any active mission first.
Wait until police attention has cleared.
Move onto dry land if your character has been swimming.

    Choosing Your Cast

The Casting Trailer is where the fun really starts. You are not stuck with Michael, Franklin, or Trevor. The menu is split into seventeen casting groups, so you can step into the role of a pedestrian, a paramedic, a police officer, a soldier, or plenty of other locals. Animals can join the line-up too, provided you have found the relevant peyote plants in the wider map. That range makes a simple idea feel less repetitive. A chase filmed as a cyclist, for example, has a completely different mood from the same scene filmed as an officer.

    Running the Set

Settings give you control over details that Story Mode usually leaves to chance. Keep the clock at sunset for a warm skyline, lock it to midnight for a darker scene, or swap clear weather for rain, fog, or smog. You can also remove wanted-level responses, turn on invulnerability, use low gravity, or add explosive ammunition. It is worth changing one or two options at a time. Otherwise, it is easy to lose track of what made a shot look right. Small adjustments often produce the better clip.

    Making It Your Own

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S edition, released on March 15, 2022, gives Director Mode sharper presentation through 4K options and improved frame rates. That extra clarity helps when you are framing photos or recording a sequence for later editing. Some players use the mode purely for screenshots; others build short films with repeated takes and new camera angles. If you also choose to buy GTA 5 Money, it can support more options in regular play, while Director Mode remains a place to experiment without the usual pressure.
