Senior Underwriter Position
6th Avenue Capital, a New-York based investment firm (the “Firm”), is accepting applications for a Merchant Cash Advance Senior Underwriter.
The Role: The Firm has developed an avant-garde investment platform integrating robust technology and superior underwriting analytics. We are looking for a shrewd, entrepreneurial individual to perform credit analysis and underwriting of new Merchant Cash Advance (“MCA”) applications, as well as help grow our underwriting expertise in the MCA industry. This role will be key to optimizing our investment decisions. This individual will be integral to our team, and we will recognize good leadership and performance with opportunities for upward mobility.
Senior Underwriter Role Description:
• Review Merchant Cash Advance applications: analyze borrowers’ overall business stability and make lending decisions.
• Analyze financial statements, business banking statements and related cash flows, information provided by borrowers’ advance applications, credit bureau information, and other third party data and analytics provided by the Firm.
• Conduct credit and background checks on business and business owners.
• Determine applicant credibility and payback ability using in-depth review and verification of all provided information, including independently developing methodology to support lending decisions.
• Coordinate with agents at Independent Sales Organizations (ISO's) to obtain required or missing documentation and to facilitate communication with business owner. Improve relationships and build loyalty with ISO’s.
• Negotiate with external lender contacts.
• Schedule, coordinate, and review business site visits. Perform merchant interviews to understand the nature of a client’s business operations.
• Manage, support and price deals accurately and efficiently within the deadlines and guidelines established by 6th Avenue Capital.
• Evaluate current underwriting processes and take initiative to improve them; execute an “outside of the box” thinking problem-solving approach.
• Interact daily with and make positive impact on underwriting staff, internal sales team, business partners, merchants, and clients.
Senior Underwriter Role Requirements:
• Experience reviewing financial information in the context of small business credit quality, including analyzing bank statements, business financial statements and tax returns.
• Strong understanding of Dunn & Bradstreet, Paynet, LexisNexis, Experian, Clear and other credit research tools.
• Commitment to increase skill level becoming efficient in credit analysis.
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Team player with positive work attitude, effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, good relationship skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ablility to create and navigate MS Excel spreadsheets
Required Experience:
• 3+ years in the Merchant Cash Advance industry, Financial Services, or similar industry directly responsible for credit analysis.
Required Education:
• Bachelor's or higher degree.
• Accounting background is a plus.
