Is BlueVestment only for freshly-issued loans, or can it also buy loans on the Folio?

After the housing market crashed, my father started flipping houses. He would focus on distressed properties and buy them up at short sale auctions. It's been pretty good money for him.

However, in recent years a number of big REITS have moved into the market, looking to buy houses as part of a large renting portfolio. They have been squeezing the margins quite a bit, making it difficult to find good deals. Luckily flipping houses has only been a hobby for him, so he's not hurt much by the competition.

Investing - General (not P2P) / ESPP opinions?
December 11, 2013, 11:00:00 PM
Are you talking about an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)? If so, you might want to move this to the "Investing - General (not P2P)" section of the forums.

That said, if you are talking about selling your company stock, you should consider what % of your assets are held up in your company. If you are in the 10-15% range, you might be ok to hold on to the shares (depending on the company you work for). But if you are in the 25%+ range, you would be foolish not to dump some of your shares and diversify.

Investing - General (not P2P) / Credit Spread Trades
December 10, 2013, 11:00:00 PM
This is pretty much the same thing that Core said, but I can't emphasize it enough. One of the most important things you can do starting out is to find a good broker with low transaction costs. If you use an online retail broker like E*trade or Schwab, you will never make money trading. The commissions are simply too high. Take stocks for example: for 100 shares of X company, E*trade will charge you $10 to get in and $10 to get out ($20 total). Comparatively, Interactive Brokers, which tailors to institutional investors and professional traders, will charge you $1 to get in and $1 to get out ($2 total). If you are just a regular buy-and-hold investor, E*trade is perfect for you (because, frankly, the Interactive Brokers website is terrible for anything other than trading). But if you are actively getting in and out of positions, the extra $18 per trade you pay will put a substantial dent in your profits.

You should never have to make a trade decision because you are worried about transaction costs. This is especially true when it comes to scratching a trade that is either flat or down. If don't get rid of your losers quickly, you'll start to get emotional and end up losing even more money than you otherwise would if you just ate the commission.

Investors - LC / Payment - Settled In Full
December 08, 2013, 11:00:00 PM
I just picked up another one of these notes. It makes me really curious what the "Payment - Settled In Full" log really means...

I wonder how well Prime will get you into the perfect-credit, 24% notes that usually get eaten up within 10 seconds.

I just had a purchase go though that had a payment post the same day. The note was past-due and the payment brought it current. By all indications, the trade should have busted, but it didn't.

This used to happen frequently before the "payment processing" update, except that the payment gets credited to the seller, instead of to me. This time, however, I got the payment. Must have been a glitch or something.
