Investors - LC / Lending Club New Product?

I wouldn't be surprised if those institutional investors are doing some form of "capital structure arbitrage" -- long on LC notes, short on LC equities.  If LC is doing well, the notes will produce the returns; if LC tanks, the short on equity will compensate of the loss from notes.

Either way, with a volatile stock like LC, those guys must prepare enough cash for margin calls.

Investors - LC / Strategy advice!

My advice would be to take a "Finance 101" class from a local college.

It is more objective, more comprehensive and less-biased than those offered by advisors, agents, friends, families, etc.

I was with Wall Street companies for many years, and I can tell you that a lot of financial innovations are easy to understand once you get the basic formal concepts.

IMO, this is the key to Prosper's issue:

The 35k loans being more likely to default is anecdotal.

Below are some statistics of loans by their original amount, and the percentages of the amount bracket to be charged-off.

Seems loans in the [26,000.01-27k] bracket is the most likely to charge off; while the [34k-35k] bracket is among the least likely.

If you are open to selling and buying on Folio, 60-mo loans are attractive.
