If one was sitting on a lot of capital gains in stocks, he or she could conceivably sell enough to generate sufficient capital gains to offset P2P capital losses. Repurchase the shares immediately at a stepped-up basis. Wash sale rules don't apply on gains. What do you think? Is this a reasonable way of supporting a larger P2P portfolio?

Investors - LC / 401k question from a Newbie
« on: March 15, 2015, 11:00:00 PM »
There are other reasons to put it in an IRA. If you generate capital losses over 3k per year, and do not have any gains to offset the excess, you're banking losses for the future. It's not tax efficient.

Investors - LC / Insuring loans.

There isn't enough money to be made selling insurance for $1000 portfolios. If you can't stomach the risk of 40 $25 A notes, then maybe go on Folio and buy 100 A notes that are halfway or more repaid.

Here's the definitive list of PMax Prosper for those dates.

If you want a faster deployment rate, perhaps PT might consider allowing a parameter to shift the buy line up and down.

BlueVestment / Using BlueVestment with P2P-Picks for Lending Club
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:00:00 PM »
Here was the 6pm load today. There were 8 Top 10/5. BlueVestment is a little slower on the gun because it was my first integration project. I currently run the picks on my server and send them to BlueVestment. That transit time is too long nowadays. I need to get BlueVestment a copy of LendGuardian so they can run the picks locally and act as soon as they see the new loans.

Investors - LC / Bad Data in Loan - Crashing My API Client
« on: January 09, 2015, 12:00:00 AM »
Other issues I've had to muddle through:

    • double quotes within double quotes in free text

    • within free text
    • double quotes being in the header row in REST but not in SOAP or CSV
    • free text being different between CSV and API versions (CSV cuts out special characters)

General P2P Lending Discussion / Direct Lending Investments
« on: December 31, 2014, 12:00:00 AM »
It's an investment fund for accredited investors only. You have to meet certain suitability criteria. You ask the general partner for a private placement memorandum that lists out how everything works, and then if you choose to invest you sign some subscription documents and wire your money to a custodian. The fund reports account values monthly, along with a letter from the GP. I've invested since May 2013; been a solid performer with little variance.

I included that genetic selection criteria in my portfolio comparison white paper. However, it wasn't a terribly fair inclusion as it didn't pick a ton of notes and the backtest period overlapped somewhat with the original author's testing period. I wound up taking it out in a later version. I also thought the best comparison for a product like mine was something that would pick at least 10% of 36 month loans (in the appropriate grades). The method of comparison was good, though, and I haven't seen anything like that since.

P2P-Picks / Donation Page Up
« on: December 13, 2014, 12:00:00 AM »
A number of retail subscribers have asked for a way to donate and support server costs, taxes, and other business related items. We finally got around to putting a page up for those who are interested in making a gift. P2P-Picks has never and will never charge for its newsletter services to retail subscribers, so there is no expectation on our end. We make a modest profit by providing (the same) models to institutions and consulting services to platforms.

Investors - LC / STOCK PRICE TALK: Opened at $24.75
« on: December 12, 2014, 12:00:00 AM »
I'm happy for people who are enjoying the ride, but I have to think that LC wouldn't willingly let so much money stay on the table. Why not have $1.5B or $2B in the coffers? The underwriters probably had some of the best people in the business trying to value the company and put a fair price tag on it. That's $15, up given the significant investor interest. With a +60% valuation in one day, so much future growth is baked in that I don't at all blame people who got out at the open. It could stay there for months; it could drop down tomorrow. It's impossible to say. Unrealized gains are opinions.

Interest rates dropped. I've since moved to Top 10% DE and still tend to have some idle cash.
