Title: web server problems
Post by: Fred93 on May 05, 2017, 11:00:00 PM
During the last 24 hours, I've had quite a few forum pages intermittently take >30 seconds to load, and also some error messages, including...

Resource Limit Is Reached
The website is temporarily unable to service your request as it exceeded resource limit. Please try again later.

and

Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Additionally, a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Second this- I had this happen a few times yesterday as well. Made me question if I was having connection issues. Seems mostly ok so far this morning.

Thanks for bringing this up and apologies I didn't see this thread until now. Can you report back if you're still seeing issues? Performance seems fine for me at the moment but happy to engage our host if it continues to be a problem.

I did see a couple of very long page load times (1 minute) yesterday, but no more of those error messages.

Today has been fine, as have most recent days.

More difficulty today.  Many examples of super long page load times, on the order of 30 seconds or more.

Thanks for letting us know. I also caught a couple glimpses of this in the morning. We are looking into it further and hope to have this resolved soon.

Very slow getting to the Forum much of the day; even from Virginia.
Also Server temporarily unavailable responses.

Zach, you may recall that last time we had webserver problems here I wrote a little program to log page load times.  I fired that up again tonite and ran it for a couple of hours.

Times are west coast PDT.  I'm attempting once per minute.  I have chosen the scaling of the vertical axis to emphasize the short times, rather than the long ones.  You can see that before and after the obvious timeouts you have one or two longer than average page loads.  In other words, these are events that go on for several minutes, building to a crisis, and then ramping back down.

I don't know what kind of problem would do that, but that's what I see.

I've attached a csv file containing timestamp , load time in seconds , error message
I had to rename it from .csv to .txt to get the forum software to let me upload it.

I let it run overnight...

Can't say that I see much of a pattern.  Clearly these are not one-off timeouts, but periods of about 5 minutes during which the forum is slow or times out.  (Hard to see at this resolution, but it is in the data.)  Other than that... It comes and goes.

Well, now have over 2 days of data.  The problem continues to occur.  (In fact it happened while I was trying to post this message.)  I've changed the vertical scale so you can see the longer times.  The lines that go off the top of the screen are almost all timeouts or errors from the web server.

Seems the web server problems are back- got several "Page cannot be displayed" errors just now along with extremely long load times once it did load. For the record all other internet activities on my end were working fine.
